How to write an effective About Me page

Hello #Bloglife101 friends... I can hear the Cheshire cat saying: "Who. Are. You!?" Can you? As a blog owner your about me page will be one of the first impressions you make on potential readers.. is yours effective?

As you know, the Blog Life series was slightly derailed and may continue to be a little hit or miss but, I am definitely going to finish the series because I have so much information to share with you all.

Back to the topic at hand: Why does an about me page matter?

Usually when I find a new blog, after I read the post that led me to the blog and decide I like the authors tone, style, and the content overall the first place I click is "About me". Why?

As readers we want to know a few things about the website we are viewing whether it is a blog or business. We want to know what the blog is about, how it can benefit us as readers, why the author feels passionate about their blog, and who the author is.

If you are writing a personal journal/ blog your about me page may only be exclusively about you. If you are writing a lifestyle, how-to, informative blog though.. the readers opinion of you is less important than the content you are offering.

LEARN TO USE YOUR ABOUT ME PAGE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!!!

Since most people will click "about me" before they click "home" let your about me page be a landing ground that highlights and showcases the mission and purpose of your blog. Spend a few paragraphs clearly telling your readers what they should expect to find, give links to past posts that you feel further describe your work and lastly give your readers a short sweet paragraph that is "about the author".

If you want to write more about you make a separate page and include a link at the bottom of your about me page that directs your readers to a page that specifically highlights you!!

Another cool thing to note is the "new here" or "start here" page where you give new readers a way to quickly navigate your page. When/ if you set up a page like this set it up as if you were directing your mom through your blog for the first time! ;)

On Winterstead we have an About Us page because our blog is a personal journal, however our blog is turning into a lifestyle blog and we may change that at some point.

Over on ApotheKayla I have an "About Blog" page and an "About Kayla" page. Just to keep it neat and tidy!

So.. what are your thoughts about the "About me" page? Do you use it to your advantage?

Up next on the #BlogLife101 series we will share tips for your first blog post! Stay tuned! ;)

Thanks for reading and remember: "Sharing is Caring!"
