When I was a child I would change the end of the phrase "When I grow up I want to be..." all the time.
One week I would want to be a professional vocalist (singer), the next I would want to be a poultry scientist, and the next week I wanted to be a cosmetologist.
On our About Us page I go into a little bit of detail about how I changed my college major from Health Sciences (I was going to school originally to be an x-ray tech or possibly a nurse) to Journalism.
Here's why...
As a journalist I can find any subject or hobby, or even lifestyle to write about. I can dive into a hobby, for example, and write about all that I have learned. It is the glass shoe of careers for me!
More than my career though, I often think about that phrase "when I grow up". My father still says that he is still growing up!! ;)
I will turn one quarter of a century in age in ten days, I am an old soul though and I take time to contemplate my life choices. Writing fills me with passion and I would rather live a life full of passion while being piss poor* than work a job that turns my soul cold.. you know the job, with overly repetitive life draining work.
A few months ago I had the thought "what would my child self think about the person I am today" and at that moment I realized that it didn't matter what career I chose, or which culture or hobby I decided to write about. As long as I honored myself and kept my child like passion for life I was winning!
So today, ask yourself "would my child self be happy with the person I have become" and if the answer is no then the only person keeping you from having a life that fills your heart with child like passions** is you & you can change it!
*piss poor: is a phrase that came from the times when poor people had to sell their urine to the tanners and if you didn't have a pot to carry the urine you "didn't have a pot to piss in". Sorry for the vulgarity of the phrase.. I didn't start it. =P
**child like passion: Anything that makes you feel young at heart and full of inspiration. Like hours are minutes because you are having so much fun. Find it, do it, but most importantly BE it! <3
We've been giving out 'when I grow up I wanna be like me' stickers since we hit the road over 8 years ago. We live that mantra, and love finding others who do too :) Look forward to crossing paths with you some day and gifting you your sticker.
